Platinum VIP agents are the preferred agents of a builder, the chosen few. How do they get this status? By selling lot more units for that builder in the past, than a regular agent. They are rewarded by the builder with first access to the units and best prices for their clients when a new condo project is launched.
Aside from the developer’s friends and family, Platinum VIP agents are the first group of people to know about and get access to a new pre-construction condo project. This group of agents generally sells the largest chunk of units. These agents then inform their clients who are interested in buying a builder condo unit, right away.
First Access to Pre-construction Units
When you buy your condo using one of these agents, you get first access to a wide choice of best units with best floorplans and views, at the lowest prices and developer’s incentives and promotions.
After this pre-public sale, choice of available units goes down and prices tend to go up.
A platinum VIP agent works for the buyer and not the builder. So, working with one of such agents can be very beneficial.
Here is one good reason to have a platinum VIP agent. These agents specialize in selling pre-construction condos and houses and they sell them at a much higher volume than other realtors. For this reason, they are extremely important to a condo builder.
On-Going Relationship
Many times, the builder also gives allocation of units to platinum agents for which they have exclusive access to sell them to their clients, for a limited time. This ongoing relationship between the developer and the platinum agent, builds trust between them. This can work to the client’s benefit in the form of better incentives for example, than if that person walks into the sales office on his own or with an agent who is not a Platinum VIP agent.
Think about it. If you have a choice between working with an agent who has worked with the builder, someone whom you can trust, has delivered you good results in the past and an agent who is new and is promising you the world but can’t deliver because he or she doesn’t have that relationship with the builder, who will you prefer? Same goes with you walking into the sales office all by your own. All of the builder’s sales people work for the builder so naturally, they have the best interest of the builder and not you.
Real Value of a Platinum VIP Agent
The real benefit of having a platinum VIP agent is revealed later on, when any issue crops up and you need help in dealing with that issue. That is where a platinum agent can be the most valuable asset.

- you get to know about a project first before they are advertised,
- learn about project launch events and sales much earlier and
- you can often reserve a unit ahead of other buyers simply by filling out a worksheet.
