Are you considering Erin Mills for your next location? If yes, here are some things you should know to help you decide if this neighbourhood is right for you.

Erin Mills is located in the western part of Mississauga. It lies between Thomas St. to the north and Dundas St. W to the south. This neighbourhood offers the peace and quiet along with lots of green spaces for those who love the outdoors. It is very near to University of Toronto Mississauga campus. Also the largest hospital in Mississauga, Credit Valley Hospital is located in this neighbourhood.

What are the things to do here?

First -parks and recreation

Many parks and recreation centres are situated in Erin Mills and provide wide options for active lifestyle.  Some of the parks are Erin Centre Trail Park on Artesian Dr which is a quiet place for walking around with your dog, The Tom Chater Memorial Park on the southern side, features baseball diamonds, bike path and a small playground, and the Rotary Park which has a clean and well-maintained soccer field. There are also indoor playgrounds for kids like the Balls of Fun on Laird Rd and Aladdin’s Adventures on Ridgeway Dr.

Another great place is the Erin Meadows Community Centre where there are many activities you can do such as swimming including parent and toddler open swim and reading in the library. This place has something for people of all ages. You can also watch hockey or have skating lessons in Erin Mill Twin Arena on Unity Dr. They have a snack bar and galleria where viewers can stay warm.
Second, Schools

There are many schools in Erin Mills, including public and Catholic schools. For elementary, there is Sawmill Valley Public School at Sawmill Boulevard., St. Rose of Lima Separate School located on The Gallops is a Catholic school that accept students up to middle school. Other public-school options for middle school are Erin Mills Middle School at South Common Court and Erin Centre Middle School at Erin Centre Boulevard which offers French Immersion. For secondary school, there’s the much sought after John Fraser Secondary School near Erin Mills Town Centre and Loyola Catholic Secondary School at Sladeview Crescent for French immersion option.
Thirdly, Shopping

Erin Mills Town Centre on Erin Mills Parkway is a big indoor mall with clothing shops, department store and a food court with many food outlets. This mall was extensively renovated in the recent years. You can buy most of your needs here from clothing to grocery. For men’s clothing and suits for formal events, there’s the Tip Top Tailors. For women’s clothing and good deals for casual clothes, you can go to the Fairweather Stockhomme store. You can also find good prices for unique collection of jewellery at Fine Gold Jewellers.

Basketique Gift Shop is the shop for unique and thoughtful gifts. It is also located in Erin Mills Town Centre. Another gift shop, Credit Valley Gift Shop is located at Credit Valley hospital. Another major shopping mall is South Common Centre on Burnhamthorpe Rd. This mall has shopping, eateries and a gym.
Next,  the best restaurants in the area

Along Dundas St W, there are many good restaurants. For starters, “Erin Mills Pump and Patio” is definitely one of the best sports bars in Mississauga. They have a great selection of drinks and have an outdoor patio for you to relax in if the weather is right. You should try their banquet burger and chicken wings while watching your favorite team in the big screen!

Then, there’s the Apricot Tree Café, a dessert shop that serves large selection of home-made desserts and ice cream and is also now offering daily lunch and dinner specials. They have indoor and patio seating where you can enjoy your coffee or tea. One of the popular dishes here are the Crepe Denmark and Sorbet Platter.

Still on Dundas St W, Piatto Bistro serve tasty Italian meal and also has good wine selection to go with it. They have fantastic customer service here!

Axia Restaurant at Plantation PIace and Eglinton Ave corner serves Asian foods including Japanese, Chinese, Korean & Southeast Asian cuisines in a marketplace setting. They have many vegetarian options and kids’ menu as well.

Public transportation

Square One is easily accessible from Erin Mills via Hwy 403 and about 40 minutes to downtown Toronto. Other major highways such as 407 and QEW are just few minutes away. The Erin Mills GO Station is located at the intersection of Erin Mills Parkway and Hwy 403. It is the closest GO Bus Station and a very convenient option for getting in and out of the neighbourhood. Another option is the bus terminal at South Common Centre with MiWay routes connecting other parts of the city and Oakville.

There is also the Mississauga Transitway which offers fast commute and covers 18 kilometres of bus service from Winston Churchill Boulevard to Renforth Drive in Etobicoke. This also gives you quick access to other transits like GO Transit, Miway, and TTC.

Types of Housing

Housing is mixed here. You will find everything from condo suites to large detached homes.
In the central part of Erin Mills Arc Condo, Downtown Erin Mills condo and Mills Square Condo were built in the recent year. At Arc condo, Farmer’s Market is also located. Here you can buy organic products for good prices. The typical newer homes here were built after year 2000 and consist of detached houses and large bungalows while the much more expensive homes are the mansions along the Mississauga Road.
Given the size of this neighbourhood, I will probably run out of time telling you about all the amenities and benefits of living in Erin Mills.
